Last year, only 22% of registered Glen Rock voters voted in the school budget election.
That means that of the borough's 8,318 voters, 1,842 went to the polls.
If 3% of those who stayed home had come out to vote "yes," there would
have been a different outcome. In other words, in a small town like
Glen Rock, every vote truly counts. "People often say that, in a Democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote – a very different thing."
Walter Henry Judd, American politician and statesman |

Did we feel the effect? YES
Since last year's budget did not pass, there have been changes in the Glen Rock schools. Field trips, assemblies and other enriching activities have been cut. Our evening programs, Family Math and Family Science, were eliminated due to lack of funds. If the budget does not pass this year, teaching positions and supplies will be on the chopping block.
Those of us who have children in the Glen Rock schools need to make sure our votes are counted. That means everyone. If there are two adults in your family, it is not enough for one of you to vote. Make sure you and your spouse have the opportunity to get to the polls.
In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for materials that explain the 2010-11 school budget. Look through this information to help you decide which way to vote. But most importantly, get to the polls and vote. Make yourself heard!
