  TRAFFIC SAFETY at Byrd

One parent's reaction to some selfish behavior - October 21, 2011

Another suggestion - October 28, 2011:

Hi Dr. Weber!

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for offering the parent letter to post on the Byrd HSA site about the traffic drop-off/pick-up situation.

We rarely drive unless I'm on my way to an appointment or if it's raining, but I did  pick-up last week due to the weather, and I think my blood pressure rose about 10 points due to frustration - parents are just not thinking of others besides themselves or their own children.

Thankfully there was a teacher out there making parents move instead of chatting to other parents on the sidewalk, or talking on their cell phones before they pulled away.  It became a safety issue.

Maybe parents could volunteer once a month to act as traffic "cops" to keep traffic moving?

I think this was offered as an idea at an HSA meeting last year, but I'll mention it to the HSA presidents - I'd be happy to help out if needed.

Thanks again!

Students only exit cars on the SCHOOL side of the street.  Parents stay in their cars and can pull out once their child has exited the car.

We have come up with a new traffic pattern, which launched on  March 1, 2010 in cooperation with the Glen Rock Police Department and the Board of Education.
